We love a zombie here at Kooba Radio. In fact, we can't wait for the Zombie Apocalypse. Jonny has eight hundred tins of spam stockpiled in his kitchen for just that occasion. And it turns out that said cataclysm will be arriving slightly sooner than expected - on Saturday April 28th on London's South Bank!

Ah 2012, nice to meet you. Something tells me we are going to have fun together. Let's get started, shall we? What better way to begin our recommended tracks of 2012 than with a cut from MJ Hibbett's long awaited rock opera Dinosaur Planet (ah-oooh ah-oooh).

Now here is a seriously good find: Dog Ears. This is a solo side project from Special Benny’s Mat Baynton. Dog Ear’s debut EP So It Goes is quite Benny sounding, which is to be expected as it features Ben and Tom from Special Benny on various instruments, but it is more melancholy and introspective with a bit of a Beirut brass thing going on too.

Yet another good band in the mail bag today! Will wonders never cease? The emphasis here is on haunting echoey guitar, clattering cymbals, pleading blues lyrics. Ladies and gents I give you GUILE!

Mr B is the self styled king of Chap Hop, a genre seemingly invented in the 19th century which shares much in common with the trappings of musical styles more readily associated with the late 20th century. I.e. its funny.

Frilly White is the moniker taken on by collaborators Belinda Blair and the Evolution Control Committee. As Kooba listeners will know, The Evolution Control Committee are the masters of irreverent mash-ups and remixes (see What Would Think If I Sang Auto Tune), but Belinda is more of an unknown quantity.

What can you say about Special Benny? They are a close knit group of multi instrumentalists who produce epic jazz rock symphonies that have inspired a fanatical following over a number of years. They switch between keyboards, guitars and sax with a tightness that comes from genuine friendship and camaraderie.
