SFX Weekender 2010 / 2011

Not the nerds they're looking for

Not the nerds they're looking for.

Was it really a year ago that we packed our knapsacks and carefully crushed our recording equipment with a bag full of bottled wine?

Well – it must be, because in two days time I’ll be off again to The SFX Weekender 2011.

We had a ball last time, chatting with Stormtroopers, flirting with flighty Dalekettes – not to mention meeting a man who makes the evil Skaroans for a living -having pictures taken in the Tardis (which we discovered was a lot smaller on the inside than it was on the outside) and dancing to the musical stylings of Pat Sharpe.

We also got to meet Will and Richard from the fab SFX magazines team, flirt with Sarah-Jane Smith, and generally geek out as Pontins became Mos Eisley and Camber Sands doubled for a chilly Tattooine.

Here’s the first clip from our special J + A Show on the Weekender from February last year.

Not just one of our favourite artists, not just one of our favourite interviews at the Con, but one of our favourite people of all time, Glen Fabry took some time out to talk to us. Glen is a legend at Kooba these days, it’s like Garth Ennis actually wrote him! Famous for his work on Daredevil, Slaine, Hellblazer and even The Batman himself, Glen was a treat! He even gave us some of his artwork to give away in a competition. Listen to our Preacher man right now…

Lastly, and here’s a real treat, I got to sit down with architect of many of our childhoods, the amazing Gerry Anderson. Here, for the first time, is our interview in full…my favourite part is when I asked him about Team America World Police, which could have gone either way, but…

No longer the sidekick...

I always intended this blog to include the odd outtake from Kooba, so here’s a great one, never before heard…

Who knows which legends of page, stage and screen we’ll get to chat to this year? Well we do obviously, you’ll just have to wait for the next show. Excelsior!
