In December of 2004 Kooba Radio in association with Orange & Blue Productions gathered together the best unsigned artists in the UK and recorded Broadband Aid.
Broadband Aid is a new arrangement of Band Aid, the famous Christmas Single.
It was our hope that this version of the single would reach people that Band Aid 20, released that same year, did not.
Those involved…
Much of the musical arrangement, artistic direction and drunkard wrangling was performed by a very modest individual who wishes to remain anonymous.
The band was mainly The Display Team. That’s why it all sounds a lot like The Display Team.
Drums: Chuckles (The Display Team)
Bass: Nick (The Display Team)
Guitar: Iain (The Display Team)
Trumpet: Arif (The Display Team)
Trombone: Mickey T-bone (The Display Team)
Keyboards: Stuart from Kazumo
Acoustic Guitar: Clare Portman
Strings: Gemma Gayner
Produced and Mixed by Andy K and Malcolm Gayner at Orange and Blue Studios, Catford, London.
Initial concept and supervision by Claire Dicko Dickinson.
Beers provided by Jonny, Alex and a shopping trolly.
Who Sung What?
MJ Hibbet
It’s Christmas time
There’s no need to be afraid
Drat
At Christmas time
We let in light and we banish shade
Moonshot
And in our world of plenty
We can spread a smile of joy
Ten Foot Nun
Throw your arms around the world
At Christmas time
Frankie Machine
But say a prayer
Pray for the other ones
The Display Team
At Christmas time it’s hard
Chet
But when you’re having fun
There’s a world outside your window
TV for Dogs
And it’s a world of dread and fear
Johnny Domino
Where the only water flowing is
The bitter sting of tears
Sungover
And the Christmas bells that ring there
Are the clanging chimes of doom
Nathan Persad
Well, tonight thank God it’s them instead of you.
Clare Portman
And there won’t be snow in Africa this Christmas time.
The greatest gift they’ll get this year is life
General Khaki
Where nothing ever grows
No rain or rivers flow
Everyone
Do they know it’s Christmas time at all?
Daddy Long Legs
Here’s to you
raise a glass for everyone
Here’s to them
underneath that burning sun
Do they know it’s Christmas time at all?
Everyone
Feed the world
Feed the world
Feed the world
Let them know it’s Christmas time again
Feed the world
Let them know it’s Christmas time again
Feed the world
Let them know it’s Christmas time again
