The Children’s Trust in Tadworth,  – Private Show: This is the FINAL gig. A sensory session with light, songs and things to make. It’s for the children at the Trust, their families, and the staff who help them. I’ll be able to let them know how much I’ve raised so far! We start with a raucous and heavy clutch of songs from the likes of Pop Shop, Cactusk and EVL before changing gear and easing the show to a close with Sparrow and the Workshop, No One Jones, Milk Kan and a few other choice tracks from the world of unsigned and independent bands.

We also air another snippet of interview from Jonny’s recent trip to the SFX Weekender. Hear Jonny chat with sandwich chomping Red Dwarf megastar Craig Charles!

It’s the first show of March so we have a brand new Band of the Month – one Ms. Jenny Lockyer. Jenny will be appearing live on the next Jonny and Alex Show!

Welcome to the Jonny and Alex Show, February 2011 edition. On this show we have Feb’s fab band of the month, the hotly tipped Noughts and Exes straight out of Hong Kong. On Air Myles

Near on 90 years ago, the first radio broadcasts proper blasted into the British ether, with the call sign and message “Two Emma Toc [2MT], Writtle calling”. With this, the combination of broadcasting music, news, competitions, features, crazy chat and crazy DJs was literally invented; all from a little ex-army hut in the field in the Essex countryside. A good few years later and about 25 years ago from today, a man called Tim Wander wrote about the story of these broadcasts in his book 2MT Writtle: The Birth of British Broadcasting. This year, Tim rereleased the book, using two extra decades of research and material to write the definitive story of 2MT.

On this show, as well as a regular appearance of top tunes for the Kooba listeners to enjoy, Myles is lucky enough to chat to Tim about his book. Myles gets to not only ask about great but near forgotten pioneers such as Captain Peter Eckersley, but also to find out about other completely forgotten near pioneers, one such character dying penniless in a run down shack in Kentucky. So listen in to hear not just the story of these colourful yet real characters, but also the story of a little broadcasting unit that though only broadcasting for one year in 1922 changed British broadcasting forever.

Synopsis

Some time ago Claire Gibbo came up with the idea of taking Alan Parker’s classic gangster-children epic Bugsy Malone and remaking it in the image of Kooba. So, this Christmas, especially for you, that’s exactly what we did!

While Jonny sat at home toiling over the script Gibbo went out and recruited some of Kooba’s favourite bands to record the classic sing-along show tunes from the original films. All the bands displayed their considerable talents by taking the songs and giving them their own unique spin.

The result is a unique and at times hilarious collection of tracks stitched deftly together by Jonny’s amusing post-modern take on the original story of Bugsy.

Ok so this is a really old one. It dates from the original run of Kooba Radio, when we did one show per week under the banner of The Jonny Yeah Show and we actually thought we were going to quit soon, which we never did.

I’m uploading this show and one other for my old friend Nice Lady Jen who requested to hear them. I’m glad she did. I can’t stop laughing. Ben and Aaron from Airhammer are amazing and beautiful men. This is a whole mess of mad bad fun.

I love how some of the links in the playlist don’t make any sense anymore, particulary the Air Hammer ones.

Synopsis written at the time

I had a really fun afternoon last weekend. I invited the best band of in the world down to my local pub to hang out with me and my mates. After a few power moves we retired to the Kooba studios for a shambolic but fun Jonny Yeah Show with… AIR HAMMER!

Air hammer did an interview with us for their Rockumentary. I managed to get a few ill-planned questions in for our side as well. Oh, and Air Hammer played live for us! Ben almost knocked Jonny’s wardrobe over during Ali Bye Bye. It was somewhat worrying. Check out the shoddy Kooba backing vocals during On My Farm as well.
