Rob Cushman
Rob Cushman doesn’t have a website so I have decided to write a little bit about him here. Enjoy...
Kooba Radio first came into contact with Rob Cushman in 2003 at Bar Lorca in Brixton during Malcolm Gayner’s tenure as musical director. Nu Metal was the prevailing musical genre at the time so we were surprised to see a gentleman with an acoustic guitar take to the stage. This was the man we would come to know as Rob "The Cush" Cushman.
Rob was a hit with the mental crowd. His style of catchy country blues seemed to be a fitting respite between the moshing.
Rob has been playing guitar from an early age and has served in many groups including The Finks, Motet and the army (the actual army). Having spent time performing in Rhodesia and South Africa Rob later came to London to ply his duel trades: music and carpentry.
It wasn’t until 2004 that Rob recorded his first album. A chance occurrence of a carpentry job at a studio with an absent band meant free recording time. Seizing the opportunity Rob recorded every song that he had written over the past few decades. The sessions were repeated and the eventual outcome was the album "A Bunch o’ Keys" which included his signature tune, the now infamous "Cocaine".
Rob has established himself as an integral part of the South East London music scene were he continues to perform regularly at gigs and festivals including Foxfest and Malcfest.
